I’m so tired of the whining about costs regarding racehorses. Go to Wellington or any other horsey location and see what people spend on their horses. See what they pay their workers, vets, farriers, etc. It’s twice as much as the backstretch I can promise you.
If they can’t afford the game and maintenance at the top level then bye.
These people are worth hundreds of millions of dollars and most are using racing as a tax write off. It's not my feelings, it's math. I have done the math, I have known for over a decade that these millionaires are ripping off their trainers. Many are putting the costs on the trainer's shoulders and not footing the full bill. Many are skirting the IRS and not paying taxes on hobbies because the IRS has been short the man power. Math matters and a lot of these people have become wealthy by exploiting and fraud. I have no sympathy for any of them and they can kiss my black ass.
You are missing the big picture. The vast majority of owners aren’t worth hundreds of millions of dollars. And leave your ass out of this, it’s still early on the west coast.
If I can't afford a Ferrari and it's maintenance costs I don't get a Ferrari. Simple as that. If you can't afford the cost of owning a racehorse without ripping off the trainer and giving the horse the best care then don't own racehorses. That isn’t a good analogy. It’s owning a Ford Taurus and finding out that in order to get registered you have to get the oil changed every month and sometimes even that isn’t enough as the state might pull your registration because they think one of your headlights might be ready to go out, even if it’s operating perfectly.

Not even close. That's a really bad take on owning racehorses. We should shut down racing in most states if that is the case. Horses deserve better.
