The Breeders Cup Classic Future pool number 1
For the first time in conjunction with 2022 host Keeneland, the Breeders Cup is offering a Classic future pool, pari-mutuel style, like the ones that Churchill Downs offers for the KY Derby and Oaks. We are going to try to help you navigate through the first pool which closes Sunday at 5pm eastern. You can find this pool under Classic Futures on your ADW, and it’s supposed to be available at most tracks, though betting via a machine where you can pull it up on the menu, might be a better idea than going through a grumpy mutuel clerk.
The 24 betting interests:
The ML is the morning line (opening) prices set by the BC. The GIC fair market price is what we considered to be value based on the many factors that go into the horses chances at winning this particular race going 10 furlongs at Keeneland on November 5. They are NOT a ranking of any sort, in many ways aren’t a measure of the horses talent or ability, simply their odds of winning this race, at this distance, at this track, on this day. For example, if we listed Jackie’s Warrior, who has been arguably the best horse that has run more than once this year, he would be 500-1. Not because he isn’t a great horse but because there is virtually zero chance that a) he would be entered in the race or b) he would get 10 furlongs. BS is Going in Circles resident handicapper Barry Spears fair market price. Detailed descriptions for each horses with reasoning below.
Americanrevolution - ML 20-1 GIC fair market price 44-1
🔹 is he good enough? Will his connections choose the Classic path?
Charge It - ML 15-1 GIC fair market price 25-1
🔹 can he get the 10 furlong distance and is he experienced enough? Very talented but many question marks still. If he doesn’t run well in Travers might be pointed to the dirt mile.
Corniche - ML 30-1 GIC fair market price 200-1
🔹seems unlikely to make the race after bombing in the Amsterdam last weekend and shedding frog
Country Grammer - ML 20-1 GIC fair market price 15-1
🔹 overseas form seems to trump domestic form. Respect his ability and controversial trainer can clearly get one ready
Cyberknife - ML 30-1 GIC fair market price 23-1
🔹 Haskell puts him in the conversation. Still needs to run way faster and prove the 10 furlongs is within scope. Trainer dominates KY circuit
Dynamic One - ML 30-1 GIC fair market price 55-1
🔹Is he good enough after seeming to be solid B team type this season
Early Voting - ML 20-1 GIC fair market price 40-1
🔹 has to turn it around quick after disappointing Jim Dandy. Trainer is conservative about taking shots and if his next isn’t much better he might not even be considered for the race
Emblem Road - ML 30-1 GIC fair market price 90-1
🔹pulled off shocked in Saudi, been racing on grass since. Does he even come over?
Epicenter - ML 20-1 GIC fair market price 14-1 BS 9-1
🔹 impressed in Jim Dandy with powerful finish, has talent and trainer that has won race before. Experienced and versatile. Concern about him not breaking sharp lately?
Express Train - ML 30-1 GIC fair market price 100-1
🔹 if he couldn’t be competitive in S.Ca, we doubt he will ship to KY as a longshot
First Captain - ML 30-1 GIC fair market price 75-1
🔹 is he good enough? Connections will want to run for sure
Flightline - ML 3-1 GIC fair market price 10-1 BS 7-1
🔹talent is clear, availability is not. Questions abound. Will he make race? He has run once since Christmas time so it’s fair to ask. Can he get the trip? He has never run two turns or over a mile. If he blows the Pac Classic field away and lines up in the gate on Nov 5 the price might look generous. If he somehow misses the next race or doesn’t dominate, it might not look so good.
Hot Rod Charlie - ML 20-1 GIC fair market price 22-1
🔹Ran his usual sort of unsatisfying yet decent race in the Whitney with blinkers added.
Life is Good - ML 7-2 GIC fair market price 10-1
🔹 His Whitney performance was over shadowed by his jockeys tactics though it was a very good race for him. Does it give us added confidence that he can navigate the extra furlong? I can’t say that it did.
Mandaloun - ML 30-1 GIC fair market price 45-1
🔹 hasn’t been great as a 4yo. Might be longer if Cox didn’t train for race in KY
Olympiad - ML 9-2 GIC fair market price 28-1
🔹Biggest Whitney disappointment, where does he go from here? Seems more likely to chose a Clark path
Nest - ML 20-1 GIC fair market price 60-1
🔹 very skeptical Pletcher will run 3 yo filly in Classic especially if he has other runners. She can get the 10 furlong trip but it remains to be seen if she can get it at the absolute highest level.
Rich Strike - ML 20-1 GIC fair market price 99-1 BS 1000-1
🔹 ONLY has one positive attribute, can get the 10 furlongs.
Royal Ship - ML 30-1 GIC fair market price 70-1
🔹 erratic but semi-talented.
Stilleto Boy - ML 30-1 GIC fair market price 78-1
🔹hasn’t ever really shown the ability to beat the top tier horses at 10 furlongs
Taiba - ML 30-1 GIC fair market price 18-1 BS 15-1
🔹 immensely talented horse who hasn’t wilted when given very arduous tasks. Still green as he has only competed in one truly run two turn race. Trainer is a positive (no pun intended)
Tawny Port - ML 30-1 GIC fair market price 40-1
🔹 more of a B+ level three year old and recent history has shown only true A level three year olds can win Classic
Zandon - ML 30-1 GIC fair market price 24-1 BS 30-1
🔹 ran well when second to Epicenter again but is still a question mark at 10 furlongs
All others - ML 30-1 GIC fair market price 15-1
🔹 encompasses all potential European or Japanese shippers and late developing three year olds, and Happy Saver
